EBSCO Host-- Gateway to History Reference Center, Points of View Reference Center (taking the place of Opposing Viewpoints) and Science Reference Center

  • History Reference Center: Comprehensive full-text-history database. Includes reference books, encyclopedias, magazines, scholarly journals, historical documents (primary and secondary sources) photo and map archives, and streaming video of motion pictures and video tape clips. Meets the need of those studying global history from ancient times to the present day.

  • Points of View Reference Center: Provides a series of essays that present multiple sides of a current issue (much like the Opposing Viewpoints DB that we currently subscribe to.) There are 200 topics each with and overview (objective background or description of the issue) and point (affirmative argument) and counterpoint (opposing argument). Resource includes essays, political magazines, newspapers, TV and radio news transcripts, primary source documents and reference books. Added are student and teacher guides to to debate, developing arguments, and writing position papers.

  • Science Reference Center: A comprehensive research database that has full-text, science-oriented resources including science encyclopedias, reference books periodicals, essays, biographies of scientists, images and science videos. Topics covered include biology, chemistry, earth & space science, environmental science, health& medicine, history of science, life science, physics, science & society, science as inquiry, technology and wildlife.

  • Vocational and Career Center :This database is designed to meet a wide variety of vocational and technical research needs. The collection provides full-text coverage for more than 340 trade and industry-related periodicals including American Machinist, Modern Machine Shop, Pediatric Nursing, Wireless Week, Drug Store News, Reeves Journal, Hotel and Motel Management, Restaurant Business, Advertising Age and many more. Digital Curriculum at the Media Center

DigitalCurriculum™ is the Internet video-on-demand subscription service from AIMS Multimedia. DigitalCurriculum provides instant access to thousands of curriculum videos, key concept video clips, and still images for grades K-12 in science, social studies, language arts, health, guidance, mathematics, and more.

  • Select Search Full Catalog

  • Look for the Multimedia pull down menu and select Digital Curriculum

  • Type in key words and press the Submit button

  • Select the media for a full description,

  • In the detailed description, click on the My DC button

  • You'll be taken to the media Net log in as asked for your client code and password.

  • Enter and then click the OK button. You'll be taken to a page where you can download clips, whole videos, find curriculum materials, etc.

 

FreeBook Centre

FBC contains links to thousands of free online technical

books. These Include core computer science, networking, programming languages, Systems Programming books, Linux books and many more.

 

Global Information and early Warning System of Food and Agriculture

provides regular bulletins on food crop production and markets at the global level, and situation reports on a regional or country-by-country  basis.

 

 

Historical Newspapers Online --This table provides a list of historical U.S. newspapers that are available online at no cost. Newspapers available for free through Google News Historical Archives and Newspaperarchives.com are listed individually as identified Newspapers available through Chronicling America and state digitization projects are usually listed as a group. For instance, under "Wyoming" I have not listed every newspaper digitized in the project but simply described what is available. Published by Penn State Library.

History Study Center is a collection of primary and secondary sources on global history from ancient times to the present day.

MagSearch

Allows a direct or combination search of fifteen different magazines.  Users can also access a list of social issues to browse, as well as four online magazine RSS feeds ( Time, Slate, iFeminists, and Discover magazines.)

Sweet Search --Sweetsearch searches only the 35,000 Web sites that its staff of research experts and librarians and teachers have evaluated and approved. It constantly evaluate the search results and "fine-tune" them, by increasing the ranking of Web sites from organizations such as the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, PBS and university Web sites. levels of searching are available, elementary, middle, high school, teachers, librarians, etc. Can be added as a widget on a webpage  or add-on for computer search bars.

 

 

United Streaming

United Streaming™ is a collection of online resources including videos, images, lesson plans and other resources accessible by teachers via the Internet. United Streaming is a product of Discovery Education.

  • Teachers can create accounts for their classes and will share the appropriate pass code, logins and passwords.

World Conflicts Today
Current hotspots around the world are highlighted. An overview, history including origin and a timeline of developments to the present, obstacles,  regional and global implications, resources, stakeholders, statistics information, primary sources, glossary and works cited information for each conflict as well as maps and other tools are included for each conflict listed. This is a dynamic list and changes as conflicts heat up and are resolved or at least cool off. --

King County Library System Databases
