Business & Marketing
The
business and marketing department offers four programs in which a student may
specialize. A student may receive a "Certificate of Competency" in
addition to the regular high school diploma by completing all courses in any one
of four areas with an average GPA of 3.0 in each certificated area.
The certificate is evidence of satisfactory achievement in an area of business
training and gives a decided advantage to the holder when applying for
employment. It is our stamp of approval and may help a student begin a business career.

Business courses are not required to graduate from
high school but courses may be used to satisfy
the vocational course requirement. Every student will find certain
business courses advantageous in dealing with personal affairs in future years.
All students should take note that office and
sales workers are in one of the largest fields of employment and the shortage of
workers will rise in future years.
The members of the Business and Marketing Department try to maintain classroom standards that reflect those of the typical business community. The content of each course reflects up-to-date methods used in today's offices and business retailing firms.

Business Honors
All graduating students who have earned 4 credits or more in a business education course of study (1 credit must come from completion of accounting) with a 3.5 grade point average or higher will receive department honors at graduation. Work experience credits MAY NOT be used to fulfill the business honors requirements.
Students of the Triad
Each grading period the business department recognizes students for their excellent work. Teachers nominate students from each of their classes and those students are awarded certificates of recognition.
Business Student of the Year
All students who have been recognized as Student of the Triad are eligible to apply for the Business Student of the Year Award. Students will be contacted in May about application procedures. The Business Department Staff and Advisory Board will review the applications and make the final selection.
