Math Practice Problems for Third Grade in Logic

 

3L-6) Answer: Tom-manager; Dick-teller; Harry-cashier

Tom, Dick and Harry work in a bank. One is the manager, one is the cashier, and one is the teller. The teller, who was an only child, earns the least. Harry, who married Tom's sister, earns more than the manager. What position does each person fill? Write to help explain your best thinking using words, numbers, or pictures.

 

3L-5) Answer: Take 3 pennies first. 

Use eight pennies for this game with a friend. At your turn, you must pick up 1, 2 or 3 pennies. Then your friend must do the same. Whoever picks up the last penny loses. 3L-4) Answer: 59 minutes

Six animals live in the Noisy Apartments on Zoo Street. The apartment building has two floors, and there's a tree to the right of the building. Ella Elephant lives in the apartment next to the tree. Martha Monkey lives above Ella. Larry Llama lives between Martha Monkey and Gerry Giraffe. Sophie Seal lives next to Ella. Taffi Tiger lives to the left of Ella and Sophie. 3L-2) Answer: Tina-model of horse; Allen-seashell; Dale-talking bird; Alice-spider

Four third-graders brought their favorite things to School. They brought a seashell, a talking bird, a spider and a model of a horse. Tina wants to tell about horses. Allen is showing what he found on a beach. Dale wants his friends to hear his pet say words. Alice wants to show how webs are made. Which third-graders brought each special thing to School? 3L-1) Answer: 20 tiles

Stella Spider is very tired! She has been climbing up the wall of a shower room all day. She started on the floor early this morning. Stella climbed up 7 tiles. Whoosh! Someone turned the shower on. Stella slid down 4 tiles. When the water was turned off, Stella began to climb again. She climbed up 10 tiles. Whoosh! On went the shower and Stella slid down 6 tiles. When she dried out, Stella began to climb again. She went up 13 tiles. At last she was at the top of the shower. How many tiles high was the top of the shower?
