Skills Centers are an integral part of the K-12 systems. They provide an opportunity for students between the ages of 16 to 21 to receive career training as part of their public education with no cost to the student. Operating as an extension of the high schools providing students with job preparation skills and opportunity to get a jump-start on a post-secondary education.
Skills Centers serve the same diversity of students as the local high schools, including high academic achievers and students with special needs. Competency based individualized instruction is utilized to take each student from where they currently are academically and technically to achieve a higher level of occupational skills.
Skills Centers prepare students with the academic and work skills to successfully enter the job market or advanced education/training.
Skills Centers motivate, challenge and provide opportunities for students to succeed through hands on education and applied academics. Students build critical thinking, leadership and employability skills.
To ensure all students reach their highest potential through acquisition of the academic and work skills required to successfully enter the job market or pursue advanced training/education.
Basic skills needed for employment, maturity needed to cooperate in a work environment, entry-level occupational skills at no cost. Earn up to 3 high school credits in a full-year program. Education and training from teachers/partners who come from business and industry. Information and focus on career and post-secondary opportunities. Participation in internships and work-based learning. Certificates of Competency. An easier transition from school to work.
Advanced placement in or college credit through Tech-Prep programs.
