Stevens Middle School    | Back |

There was a letter sent out to Stevens and its parents and students about the school's tutoring program presented by Port Angeles' Healthy Youth Coalition, that'll be here for the next several weeks. This is helping researchers learn how to create a community in which all students can succeed, thrive and remain drug free. If you have this paper we'd like you to sign it so that you can let us know if you've read it through and understand.

Overview of the Tutoring Program
Students are reffered to by teachers, other faculty members and parents.
Students are matched with a Student Tutor (each tutor will have NO MORE than 4 tutees)
Tutors/youth meet twice per week for one hour each time.
Tutoring sessions focus on the subject areas of reading, writing, or math.
Tutors work closely wtih teachers to ensure effective teaching methods.

Referrals are made following two major guidelines:
1. Does the student have a clear need for help in math, writing or reading?
2. Does this student seem to be benifiting from the time with the tutor?

Attendance policy:
If a student misses four sessions in one cycle (most cycles are 5-6 weeks long), his or her slot will be given to another student.
Our students make the commitment to be there on time, we expect the same from the students.

Transportation:
Bus passes are available for the Clallam Transit
If some students are not riding the bus then they must be picked up immediately after each session.
