Kids Need Flu Vaccine, Too!
Protect
Your Middle School Student Against The Flu
WITHOUT A SHOT
Flu outbreaks among children at school are a major concern. This
year Sevens Middle School is taking a proactive approach to help prevent the
spread of flu on campus by encouraging all students and staff to be vaccinated.
Children are particularly vulnerable to catching the flu and the close quarters
of the classroom further add to the spread of the illness. Getting vaccinated
against influenza is one method to combat the transmission of the flu virus at
school.
FluMist, a live
virus vaccine that comes in the form of a mist that is sprayed into each
nostril, is a no-shot option for healthy children. This year, the Clallam
County Health & Human Services Department (CCHHS) is able to offer FluMist to
your student, at school, for NO CHARGE .
The injectable
influenza vaccine (shot) is also available for children who can’t receive the
FluMist due to chronic health conditions, asthma, recurrent wheezing, or a
weakened immune system.
Both Flumist and the
injectable vaccination contain no preservatives.
Vaccination for
staff, FluMist or the injectable vaccine, is available for $30.00. Flumist is
licensed for individuals aged 2 through 49 years. Staff wishing to be
vaccinated should complete the attached consent form. A receipt for insurance
reimbursement will be provided upon your request at the time of vaccination.
A nurse from the
CCHHS will administer the vaccine on Tuesday, November 27th from 8am
– 12pm. Complete the attached consent sheet and return it to school with your
student if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity.
Please call Ann
Johnson RN at 417-2439 at the Clallam County Health Department or your school
nurse if you have any questions.
