Mutsu City, Japan
Who?
What? When? Why? These are all questions that come to mind when someone brings
up the trip to Japan. Well the lucky students attending consist of fifteen
eighth graders who had to undergo an interview with the foreign language teacher
and the principle. Also all the students had to make a portfolio about community
service, accomplishments, goals, and their outstanding grade point averages.
As we
interviewed the foreign language teacher, we discovered her inner thoughts and
feelings towards this trip, such as she was not nervous or scared but excited
beyond belief and can’t wait for this enthusiastic bunch of kids to try new
food. This teacher also stated that, “The most popular food over in Japan is
sushi, kuri, ramen tempura, Korean barbecue, sashimi, and green tea. If someone
doesn’t like the food then there are always the American fast food joints, and
it is a requirement for each student to bring snacks like granola bars along
with them.”
To
refresh the student’s memory with the Japanese language they attend
International Club every Wednesday evening from 3:15-4:00 p.m. Also in Japanese
Club they learn how to write different styles of calligraphy. If you are
interested in taking part in the Japanese trip next year start preparing now by
learning simple Japanese, attending International Club, and starting a
portfolio.
